Implant-Supported Fixed Dentures

Implant-supported fixed prosthesis also known as overdentures are held securely to increase speaking and chewing ability. They attach a customized denture to individual implants or a row of implants, securing the denture in place. They look completely natural, are long-lasting and are quite durable.

The supporting implants are normally placed toward the front of the mouth, where the bone is denser, or wherever the least amount of bone loss has occurred.

After the implants are securely anchored in the bone, the abutments, which support the denture, are affixed to the implants. The full denture is attached to the abutments in the same manner as a bridge, so only your dental professional can remove it. Next, the denture is attached above the level of the gum for easy hygiene care at home.

Implant-Supported Removable Dentures

Many individuals who have no teeth in one or both jaws find removable dentures an economical way to restore their smiles. An excellent solution is simply to place as few as two dental implants in the lower jaw to support a removable denture so that it does not come loose when worn. An implant-supported removable denture can still be taken out for cleaning and maintenance.

The first step is the placement of the titanium implants to replace lost teeth. These implants will remain covered underneath the gum for approximately 3 to 6 months. During this time, the implant should fuse to the bone. The second step of procedure involves uncovering the implant and attaching a post to each implant.

The final Step is the placement of your new teeth. First a bar attachment will be affixed to the posts, completing the foundation on which your removable restoration will be placed.

With removable dentures, the implants support a bar to which the denture is snapped on and off. This permits you to remove it at home for cleaning. Although the denture is removable, it remains firmly attached during normal functions, including eating and talking. Whether fixed or removable, the finished result is nearly indistinguishable from natural teeth.
